RE:  Updated  (2008) IN-SEASON Academic Expectations/Consequences & Rules

Players & Parents:

As the season progresses, and we look forward to continued success, there are a few issues that need to be addressed within our football program:

1.    Continued stressing of academic importance
2.    Missing of conditioning, leaving practice early, and Dr.’s appointments

We are at the midpoint of our 1st academic nine weeks and an extra emphasis needs to be placed on our grades.  The fourth nine weeks of 2007 determined eligibility for the start of our 2008 season.  As you know, our athletes needed to pass 5 credits to be eligible.  With the hopes of our continued success, a possibility of making the playoffs could be within reach.  If we are fortunate enough to achieve this goal, students who are not passing at least 5 full credit courses will be deemed ineligible for the playoffs.  With that being said, I am implementing a stronger academic policy and consequences:

1.    Athletes that now have a grade of “F” in any subject, as of Thursday of that week, will not be permitted to attend our team meal.
2.    Athletes must bring a written note from the teacher of the course in question, stating that the grade has improved before being allowed to join our team meals.
3.    If we are fortunate enough to participate in the playoffs, any athlete that is ruled ineligible for failing to meet the academic standards of 5 credits, will be suspended from the team for the remainder of the season and will turn in all equipment.

Players who miss CONDITIONING for therapy with Dr. Riley or leave practice early for excused appointments:

1.    Players will be required to make up the previous day’s conditioning at the beginning of the following practice.
2.    Any conditioning or rehab that our trainer deems appropriate must also be completed.
